Today I am going to cover coloured diamonds.

Most of you will be familiar with colourless or near colourless diamonds and these would be the most popular when a person chooses to purchase a diamond engagement ring. However there has been a growing demand in recent times for coloured diamonds or what we call call in the trade “Natural Fancy Coloured Diamonds”

Coloured diamonds are even rarer than colourless diamonds and therefore trade at a premium. What causes this colour to occur in diamonds? These colours are present due to the presence of certain trace elements such as nitrogen, boron, hydrogen etc. which were introduced when the diamonds were being formed deep within the earths mantle.

Coloured diamonds can be one colour eg yellow, pink, blue, red or they can have a secondary colour associated with them eg Orangey Pink. Coloured diamonds with only one colour are more expensive.
